The first and most important, simplest and most difficult of all the steps involved in SEO is keyword research. If you can do keyword research properly and choose the right keywords, the other steps of SEO will be easier for you. It is commonly said that 20-30% of SEO works if you choose the keywords correctly. So let’s discuss keywords and keyword research in some detail.
What is a keyword?
Keywords usually refer to the sum of what people search for in a search engine. A keyword is a word or phrase that people use to search for something online. Keywords can also be compared to queries, meaning that people search for all the queries in a search engine to find out about something. I hope I have been able to give you an idea about keywords. So let’s talk about keyword research. Types of keywords Keywords can usually be divided into 2 parts 1. Local or local keywords, which are sorted by specific region. 2. Global, international or global keywords, which are selected based on a global business or every country in the world.
What is keyword research?
Simply put, keyword research is the keyword selection process. That is, keyword research is the sum of the methods used or the rules that are followed in choosing the right and profitable keywords.
Generally keyword research can be done in 2 ways:
1) Manually keyword research
2) Paid tools keyword research.
1) Manually keyword research
Manual keyword research means that no paid tools are used when doing keyword research. And each step is done manually. The disadvantage of manual keyword research is that it takes a lot of time. The advantage is that it takes a lot of time and sort of good or profitable keywords as well as the work plan is well done. And is 100% confident.
However, you have to use some free tools while doing manual keyword research, but you don’t have to pay for it.
2) Paid keyword research
Paid keyword research is about doing keyword research using various paid tools. The advantage of keyword research with paid tools is that many keywords can be researched in a short time. Also the graphs can be seen very clearly which is not possible manually.
In this part, I will show you only basic keyword research. The manual and paid keyword research methods will be shown separately later. So let’s get started.
Before starting keyword research, you need to have a good idea about Nice (Nice means a specific topic that you or your client wants to start working on).
In this case, the client will give you the starter keyword, and if it is for yourself, you have to find it.
Step by step keyword research
Keyword research 1st step:
You need to do brainstorming and note down some idea keywords. Brainstorming is about making some keyword notes about what your business or your website visitors will find if you search by typing.
Keyword Research Step 2:
Do Google by typing each keyword noted and update Notepad again with the keyword from Google Suggest result. In this case, if you need more suggested keywords, you can use the various free tools available online. Below are some of the tools that people use the most.
- Google Keyword Planner, 2. Keyword Everywhere, 3. Uber Suggest, 4. Keyword Revealer, 5. There are many more tools including LSI graph, SIM scope, keyword sitter.
Keyword Research Step 3:
Copy all the keywords of Notepad and download the Excel file by extracting the search volume with the help of Google Keyword Planner. Then there are some keyword selection rules that you can follow to select some keywords and delete the remaining keywords from the file.
Keyword Research 4th Step:
You will find your desired keyword through Competitors Analysis of each selected keyword. (Competitors are people who have been working on the same keyword or who have already started working).Here are the rules to follow when choosing a keyword. The rules of keyword selection:
- Search volume will be 800-1000 or more. (The more search volume related keywords you take, the more difficult it will be).
- The title will be between 500 or 500. Generally, if the all in title is less than 500 or 500, it is considered as competitive, if it is between 500-1000, it is considered as medium competitive, and if it is more than 1000, it is considered as high competitive.
- Competitors need to choose keywords that are between PA, DA 20-25 or 30. (PA is page authority, meaning PA is the average score out of 100 of a particular page of a web site. Similarly, DA is the combined average score of all the pages of a website, which is calculated using the free google chrome extension of Mozbar Tools.
- The average backlinks of the competitors of the selected keywords will not be more than 30-50. If it is more, it is better not to choose that keyword, but it depends a lot on your budget.
- The average social share of the competitors of the selected keywords will be below 100.
